VideoAmericanGuru was created with one simple mission: to inspire people to embrace the outdoors and live a healthier, more active life.
Why this site exists
Somewhere along the way, "the outdoors" got a reputation for being complicated, something that requires expensive gear, elite fitness, and a free weekend that never comes. We don't buy it. A walk in a neighborhood park counts. A slow bike ride counts. A short trail with a big view counts double. The outdoors belongs to everyone, at every fitness level, at every age.
So we started documenting our adventures around California, the hikes, the rides, the runs, the day trips, the parks, first on our YouTube channel, and then here, where the practical details live. The camera captures what a place feels like. The website tells you how to actually go: where to park, when to arrive, what to bring, which trail to pick, and whether your dog can come along.
What we cover
Our home base is the San Francisco Bay Area, and our playground is all of California, a state where you can hike among giant sequoias, ride along the Pacific, run under redwoods, and play in the snow, sometimes in the same weekend. You'll find four kinds of content here:
- Destinations: guides to California's national parks, mountains, lakes, coast, and small towns.
- Adventures: hiking, cycling, running, walking, and dog friendly exploring: how to start and where to go.
- Day trips & itineraries: realistic plans for a single free day, mostly within reach of the Bay Area.
- Skills & guides: evergreen know how: gear for beginners, trail etiquette, safety, and planning.
Our promise to you
Plenty of travel content on the internet is written by people who never left their desk. Our rule is different: we recommend places we'd happily return to and advice we actually follow. When something is hard, a brutal parking situation, a trail that's tougher than advertised, a "scenic viewpoint" that isn't worth the detour, we say so. When we haven't visited somewhere yet, we tell you that too, and we point you to official sources for the details that change, like fees, reservations, and trail conditions.
You'll often see a furry co star in our videos and a "Bringing your dog?" note in our guides. Dog friendly adventures are part of the mission because an adventure buddy, human or otherwise, is the best motivation to get out the door.
